Salary Range: $21,121.70 – $26,653.57
Duty Station: Suva, Fiji
Reports to: Information Officer (News)
Liaise with: Staff in the Department, other Ministries and stakeholders
Subordinates: Media Assistant (News / Photography)
POSITION PURPOSE
The position is responsible for providing news and photography support to the Ministry of Information.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The position will achieve its purpose through the following key duties:
1. Attend to photographic services and ensures that all photography materials for assignments are organised, catalogued and archived;
2. Executes standard photography expectation procedures includes image editing techniques, tools and processes;
3. Providing news and photography support for news productions, social media, web and publications;
4. Writing media releases, feature articles to effectively promote government policies, programs and publications;
5. Providing news support in facilitating photo requests and covering Ministerial events;
6. Any other duties assigned by the Permanent Secretary.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
Performance will be measured through the following indicators:
1. Timely delivery of quality photographs for media releases, social media content and publications with maintaining records of photo coverage and collate analytics.
2. Ensure daily capture of photographs in the Fiji Government Website with proper maintenance and storage of production equipments.
3. Conduct regular conversation and assessment with subordinate. All reports to be submitted within agreed timeframe and meets the standards set.
4. Effective people supervision through implementation of work plans, performance management and capacity building.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
A relevant Diploma in Journalism/Media or related field from a recognised institution OR 3 years relevant work experience.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
1. Applicants should have at least 3 years of relevant work experiences in this particular field;
2. Practical, working knowledge of all aspects of news and photography techniques;
3. Proficiency with photography editing software and use of camera equipment.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
1. Ability to write news feature articles;
2. Able to work in a team;
3. Possess strong work ethic;
4. Ability to write compelling, concise press releases and statements;
5. Strong creative presence and artistic flair;
6. Flexible to travel to locations;
7. Ability to perform touch up and image adjustments after shots.
Personal Character and Eligibility
All applicants for employment in the Ministry of Information must be of good character, with a background that demonstrates their commitment to the civil service values contained in the Fijian Constitution. Applicants must also be Fijian Citizens, under the age of 60 years, in sound health, with a clear police record. The selected applicant will be required to provide a medical certificate and police clearance prior to taking up the position.
