Singapore, 16 April 2026- The Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Sakiasi Ditoka held a productive bilateral meeting with the Assistant Minister for Transport and Senior Minister of State for Finance of the Republic of Singapore, Hon. Jeffrey Siow, reaffirming the strong and longstanding partnership between Fiji and Singapore.

Discussions centred on advancing cooperation in energy security, fuel supply continuity, and supply chain resilience, against the backdrop of ongoing global uncertainties affecting fuel markets.

Minister Ditoka highlighted the pressures faced by Fiji, including rising fuel costs and logistical delays, and underscored Fiji’s critical role as a regional hub for fuel distribution to Pacific Island countries.

"The security of Fiji is inseparable from the security of the Blue Pacific," said Minister Ditoka.

"Our discussions today ensure that as a regional hub, Fiji remains a priority in the global supply chain. We are moving beyond crisis management toward a future of strategic energy resilience."

The Assistant Minister provided assurances that while global supply conditions remain tight, Singapore has put in place robust measures, including strategic reserves and supply management systems, to ensure continued stability.

Port congestion and shipping delays was also discussed, with indications that these pressures are expected to ease in the coming months.

Both sides explored opportunities for longer-term collaboration, including support for Fiji in developing a comprehensive national fuel security strategy, strengthening fuel storage and supply systems, and advancing practical energy transition pathways.

It was agreed that technical engagements will continue between relevant agencies to progress these priorities.

The meeting also reaffirmed the shared commitment of Fiji and Singapore to a rules-based international order, including under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

In a turbulent global landscape, Fiji and Singapore stand united in the belief that international law and maritime stability are the foundations of economic prosperity for all island nations.

Singapore acknowledged Fiji’s support in multilateral processes, including during the International Maritime Organization (IMO) elections, reflecting the strong partnership between the two countries on global maritime governance.
Both sides welcomed the continued cooperation in maritime and aviation sectors, including ongoing training and capacity-building support for Fijian officials, which contributes to strengthening regional connectivity and resilience.

The meeting concluded with both sides expressing confidence in further strengthening the Fiji–Singapore partnership through practical, forward-looking cooperation, particularly in areas that enhance energy security, economic resilience, and sustainable development for Fiji and the wider Pacific region.
