The Minister for Policing and Communications, Hon. Ioane Naivalurua, met with India’s Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Railways and Information & Broadcasting, Hon. Ashwini Vaishnaw, during the AI Impact Summit hosted by the Government of India.
Hon. Naivalurua congratulated Hon. Vaishnaw on behalf of the Fiji Government for the successful hosting of the milestone Summit.
The bilateral meeting underscored the strong and growing partnership between Fiji and India, particularly in advancing digital services, digital public infrastructure, and innovation-led development.
Hon. Naivalurua highlighted Fiji’s strong emphasis on digital transformation under its National Digital Strategy, including modernising public services, strengthening cybersecurity frameworks, and leveraging emerging technologies to improve service delivery. He noted Fiji’s commitment to ensuring that AI and digital tools are deployed responsibly to enhance governance, economic growth, and public safety.
Minister Vaishnaw shared India’s experience in scaling digital public infrastructure, including digital identity systems, digital payments platforms, and digital solutions across government services. He conveyed India’s readiness to share expertise and support capacity-building initiatives with Fiji.
Discussions also explored cooperation in the area of artificial intelligence by leveraging India’s expertise through technical assistance and capacity building.
Both Ministers recognised the importance of navigating the rapid surge in AI innovation through sound policy, regulation, and international cooperation.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepen technical engagement and explore practical areas of cooperation that will benefit the people of Fiji and strengthen regional digital resilience, with Fiji positioned as the digital hub of the Pacific.
